Pennsylvania County Birth Records

Pennsylvania's 67 counties each played a role in birth record keeping before the state took over registration in 1906. From 1893 through 1905, the Clerk of Orphans' Court or Register of Wills in each county was responsible for recording births within its boundaries. Many of these county birth records survive on microfilm at the Pennsylvania State Archives and in local county offices.
